Korean beauty standards are well-known for being some of the most stringent in the world. In a society that values conformity and uniformity, it can be difficult for those who don’t fit the mold to feel accepted. This is especially true for celebrities, who are constantly under the microscope and under pressure to conform to societal ideals.
There are a number of Korean idols who have defied traditional beauty standards and become successful despite not fitting into the typical “Korean” mold. Some of these idols include CL of 2NE1, Amber of f(x), Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation, and IU.
Each of these women has their own unique style and look that sets them apart from the rest. They’ve all embraced their individualities and used it to their advantage, becoming some of the most popular idols in Korea.
While they may not fit conventional Korean beauty standards, they’re still beautiful in their own right – proving that you don’t have to conform to be beautiful.
Jessi. This savage queen would be the last person to play by anyone’s rules
Jessi is a rapper and singer from South Korea who is known for her daring and unapologetic attitude. She has been in the music industry for over a decade, and in that time, she has made a name for herself as one of the most unique and fearless voices in K-pop.
Jessi is not afraid to speak her mind, or to stand up for what she believes in. She has been an outspoken critic of the Korean beauty standards that place unrealistic expectations on women. In an interview with Allure Korea, Jessi said: “I don’t understand why [Korean women] have to look a certain way… Why can’t we just be who we are?”
Jessi’s defiance of societal norms extends beyond her words. She often breaks fashion rules by wearing daring or unconventional outfits, and she frequently experiments with her hair and makeup. In short, Jessi does not conform to anyone’s idea of what a woman should look like – and she looks fabulous doing it.
RM from BTS
RM is one of the most popular and well-loved members of the global phenomenon that is BTS. He’s talented, he’s funny, he’s charming… but he doesn’t fit the typical Korean beauty standard. And that’s okay!
RM is often lauded for his unique features, which set him apart from the other members of BTS. His nose is larger and more pronounced than what is traditionally considered attractive in Korea, and his eyes are also wider set. This combination can make him look slightly “bug-eyed” to some people – but to others, it just makes him look more expressive and lively.
RM isn’t afraid to experiment with his hair and style, either – something that deviates from the cookie-cutter K-pop idol look. He’s been seen rocking everything from bleached blond hair to bright green highlights, and he always looks fabulous no matter what he does.
Some people might say that RM doesn’t fit the Korean beauty standard because he isn’t conventionally attractive. But we think that RM is beautiful in his own unique way – and we love him even more for it!
Hwasa from Mamamoo
While Hwasa may not fit the mold of a traditional Korean beauty, she has still managed to become one of the most popular members of Mamamoo. Her unique style and outgoing personality have made her a hit with fans all over the world. If you’re looking for an idol who is different from the rest, then Hwasa is definitely someone you should check out!
Amber Liu from F(X)
Amber Liu from the K-pop group f(x) is often lauded for her unique and androgynous style, which is a departure from the typical cutesy and girly aesthetics of most K-pop female idols. However, Amber’s style is not just a matter of personal preference – it’s also a deliberate statement against the unrealistic beauty standards that are placed on women in South Korea.
Amber has openly discussed the pressure that she feels to conform to society’s expectations of how a woman should look, and has even gone so far as to say that she was once told by an unnamed person in the industry that she would never be able to succeed unless she got plastic surgery. Thankfully, Amber refused to give in to these pressures and instead chose to embrace her own natural beauty.
In a culture where plastic surgery is rampant and women are expected to look like they’ve stepped out of a magazine, Amber is a refreshing change. She proves that you can be successful and beautiful without conforming to unrealistic standards – something that we all should aspire to!
Chaeryeong from Itzy
ITZY’s Chaeryeong is unapologetically herself, and we love her for it!
The 18-year-old idol is known for her unique features, which some fans believe don’t fit the typical Korean beauty standard. And while she may not look like your average K-pop star, Chaeryeong is gorgeous in her own way.
Chaeryeong’s large eyes and small mouth give her a doll-like appearance, which is often considered to be less attractive in Korea. She also has a wide nose and full cheeks, which are not traditionally seen as desirable features.
Despite all of this, Chaeryeong is one of the most popular members of ITZY. She was even voted as the member with the best visuals by fans in a poll on Mnet’s official website.
It’s clear that Chaeryeong is beautiful inside and out, and we hope she continues to embrace her unique features!
Jihyo from Twice
Jihyo from Twice is one of the most beautiful idols in the kpop industry, but she does not fit traditional Korean beauty standards. Her features are more angular and her skin is darker than what is typically considered attractive in Korea. Despite this, Jihyo is one of the most popular idols in the country and her unique look is often praised by fans.
Woozi from Seventeen
But despite all of that, Woozi is one of the most popular members of Seventeen. He is incredibly talented, and his unique appearance has helped him stand out from the rest of the group. He is proof that you don’t have to conform to society’s standards of beauty to be successful.
