USE A SLEEP MASK. Ever rush out the door to run errands and cover half your makeup-free face with those oversized sunglasses?
We’ve all been there. Trying to get a few extra minutes of sleep in the morning, but being jolted awake by the sun beaming through the window. Or, tossing and turning all night long because your partner’s watching TV with the bright light on. But what if we told you there was a way to get better sleep AND have perfectly made-up eyes every morning? It sounds like a dream come true, but it’s actually quite simple: use a sleep mask!
A sleep mask is essentially a blindfold for your eyes that helps block out any unwanted light, allowing you to catch some quality Zzz’s. But that’s not all! Sleep masks can also help keep your skin looking flawless and reduce under-eye puffiness. Here’s how:
When you wear a sleep mask, you are essentially creating a mini sauna for your face. The heat and moisture from your breath gets trapped beneath the mask, which helps open up pores and allows all of those skin-loving serums and creams to penetrate deeper into the skin. Not to mention, it feels pretty darn relaxing!
Wearing a sleep mask also helps prevent those pesky pillow creases from forming on your face (you know what we’re talking about!). By covering up your face before bed, you give your skin ample time to heal overnight without having to worry about waking up with lines or wrinkles. Win-win!
CHEW GUM BEFORE BED. This tackles the mouth breathing
Do you ever feel like you just can’t get comfortable at night? You toss and turn, try different positions, but nothing seems to work. Your mind races as you worry about everything that’s going on in your life. And then when you finally do drift off to sleep, you wake up just a few hours later feeling exhausted. If this sounds familiar, there’s a good chance that you’re not getting enough quality sleep. One of the best ways to improve the quality of your sleep is to chew gum before bed.
The act of chewing gum can help to relax your body and mind, making it easier for you to fall asleep. Chewing gum also stimulates saliva production, which can help to keep your mouth moist and prevent mouth breathing (a common cause of waking up during the night). In addition, the act of chewing gum can help to reduce stress and anxiety levels, providing further benefits for sleep.
If you’re struggling with insomnia or other sleep problems, give chewing gum a try before bedtime. It may take a few nights for your body to adjust but eventually you should find that it becomes easier to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night.
SLEEP ON YOUR SIDE. Most people snore while sleeping on their back
If you are a side sleeper, you may be wondering how you can sleep prettily. After all, most people snore while sleeping on their back. However, there are a few things that you can do to help reduce the chances of snoring while sleeping on your side.
First, make sure that your head is elevated slightly while you sleep. This will help to keep your airway open and clear so that you are less likely to snore. You can use pillows to prop up your head or invest in a special pillow designed for side sleepers.
Second, try sleeping with a humidifier in your room. This will help to keep the air moist and will also help to prevent your throat from drying out and becoming irritated. This can lead to snoring as well.
Third, avoid eating large meals before bedtime. Eating a big meal right before bed can cause heartburn and indigestion which can both contribute to snoring. If you must eat something before bedtime, try something small and light such as a piece of fruit or yogurt.
Fourth, quit smoking if you currently smoke cigarettes or cigars. Smoking irritates the tissues in your throat and nose which can lead to snoring problems so it is best to quit if possible. If quitting is not an option for you then at least try not to smoke right before going to bed as this will further irritate the lining of your throat.
